Electronics in a Plastic Enclosure Box

Your electronics do a lot for you - they let you communicate, they evaluate your transmission lines, and they store your sensitive data. Your electronics are also sensitive and need to be protected from dust, moisture, and electromagnetic or radio frequency interference. There are a number of companies that produce enclosures, but you need to do some research on the company first to find out if the products you buy will do what you need them to do, and that the products comply with all US and EU guidelines regarding the use of plastics. REACH compliance

REACH is the Registration, Evaluation, Authorization, and Restriction of Chemicals regulation in the European Union regarding the use of chemicals in the manufacturing process. There are differing types of chemicals used, some of which are more dangerous than others. The truly dangerous ones must be pre-registered at the European Chemicals Agency located in Helsinki, Finland before they can be imported and used. All companies doing business in the EU are subject to regulation if they produce products or import raw materials and products that contain certain chemicals in excess of a set amount. Right now that amount is 100 tons a year, but that will be changing to just one ton beginning in 2018.

RoHS compliance

The second regulation the EU has established with regard to plastics is the Restriction of Hazardous Substances directive, or RoHS. This regulation looks at six specific toxic chemicals and their use. These chemicals are lead, cadmium, hexavalent chromium, mercury, polybrominated diphenyl ether, and polybrominated biphenyls. These six chemicals are evaluated for how they are handled, recycled, and recovered in electronics.

EMI/RFI shielding

Electromagnetic and radio frequency interference can cause a host of issues with your electronics, so looking for enclosures that can shield your electronics from these waves is very important. These waves can come from sources as varied as the sun and other electronic devices. With the number of electronics that can be in an office, the chances for interference are greatly increased. A high-quality plastic enclosure box can shield your computer from interference so that your data is protected and your circuit boards will not be blasted by particles that can then cause issues with your computer operating properly.

Your enclosures will also perform another duty - keeping your electronics safe from harmful dust and ultraviolet rays.
